In the annals of history, there are stories that transcend time, carrying with them the weight of unspeakable suffering and the triumph of the human spirit. This is the biography of Avraham Peter, a Holocaust survivor, whose journey from silence to strength unfolded against a backdrop of unimaginable darkness.

Despite the horrors he experienced as a child, Avraham did not surrender to his past. He devoted himself to the struggle of the Jewish people, fighting for Israel's freedom during its War of Independence. He worked hard to create a beautiful life for himself, marrying and raising a family. In a foreign land and a new language, he pursued a PhD in engineering and became one of NASA's brilliant minds, instrumental in bringing the stranded Apollo 13 astronauts safely back to Earth.

Avraham Peter's triumph was to go from a ghetto boy to a rocket man. Physically imprisoned by the Nazis as a child, his determination and strength of spirit allowed him to leave the ghetto behind to pursue his dreams. His story shows us that human beings are capable of reaching the highest of highs from the lowest of lows. It is a story that inspires. It is a story that deserves to be told.

""Designing Memory"" Competition

 The Official Commemorative Poster

The winning poster in the ""Designing Memory"" competition, an ongoing initiative of Yad Vashem together with the Israel Ministry of Public Diplomacy. The winning design, created by graphic artist  was selected by Or Siton a distinguished panel of artists and Holocaust education experts out of almost 80 entries, and is being distributed and displayed across Israel to mark Yom HaShoah 2023.

L’unità di apprendimento "La storia della St. Louis: fuga ed emigrazione" è stata progettata per gli

studenti dalla prima superiore in su, in tutti i tipi di scuole.

Il materiale didattico è composto da schede di varie dimensioni contenenti estratti da autobiografie,

memorie, documenti e fotografie, nonché un glossario con informazioni di base e spiegazioni dei

termini ed eventi storici a cui si fa riferimento. Ne "La storia della St. Louis" sono presentati quattro

temi principali: la nave e il suo capitano e le biografie di Hannelore Klein, Peter Gay e Wilhelm

Bornstein. Ad ogni tema è associato un colore diverso.

Attraverso l’utilizzo di queste risorse didattiche gli studenti rifletteranno sui seguenti argomenti:

- La diversità delle comunità ebraiche prima della Shoah

- Il significato delle decisioni e delle azioni intraprese da diverse figure storiche

- Eventi chiave della persecuzione e del genocidio degli ebrei

- La varietà delle realtà ebraiche dopo il 1945
