Philip Friedman and Jacob Robinson’s Guide to Jewish History under Nazi Impact traces the development of antisemitism in German writing. Nazism stands out in this context. With characteristic thoroughness, Nazi bibliographers continuously published a comprehensive registry of antisemitic, racist literature. The guide also covers the immediate postwar period referring to Nazis in government posts in Germany and to 100,000 Nazis who had fled to Argentina. The Guide lists all research institutes in Europe and in Israel in this field. Records of important trials are included, where possible. A chapter is devoted to anti-Jewish legislation and another to the Catholic and Protestant Churches. Jewish social organizations are reviewed. So-called “scientific experiments” on Jewish persons makes for horrifying reading. Material on reparations agreements appears. Nazi and underground newspapers are listed. A glaring omission is the dearth of material from the Hebrew language published in Israel.
