Encyclopedia of Holocaust Literature - A First Step: S. Lillian Kremer, ed., Holocaust Literature: An Encyclopedia of Writers and Their Work

The encyclopedia here reviewed is a wide-ranging undertaking, including more than 300 entries on authors and others who have dealt with the Holocaust in any field that can be included in a broad definition of “literature.” These include well-known figures, as well as lesser-known writers representing the literatures of a variety of nations and in a variety of languages. Each entry provides the writer’s biography, as well as a critical review of his/her literary production, and a generally impressive bibliography. The encyclopedia’s main flaw lies in the relatively marginal place it gives to Holocaust literature in Yiddish, Hebrew, Polish, and Russian. It is to be hoped that future editions (in the hope such will be published) will correct this distortion.
