“Walk through Words as through a Minefield” Avraham Sutzkever z”l
The article discusses the development of the Yiddish poetry of the late Avraham Sutzkever, arguably the greatest Yiddish poet of the twentieth century. It traces his development from the “Young Vilna” intellectual society, through the Holocaust years, and through the poet’s prolific years in the decades following the Holocaust. The article analyzes the various styles and influences utilized by Sutzkever and demonstrates the great influence of the Holocaust, not only on Sutzkever’s wartime writing, but also and especially on his later writing.
