Yad Vashem Calendar 2019-2020: Children's Drawings from the Holocaust Era

This year's calendar contains drawings created by children and youth during the Holocaust in the ghettos, camps and sometimes in hiding. Alongside the terrible events and the harsh conditions, Jewish parents and educators attempted to preserve normal life routines for their children, and often encouraged them to express themselves through art.

The drawings presented here give a glimpse of the inner world of children who wished to free themselves from their daily hardships. Through their creative works, they expressed their hopes for a better future, or longings for the leisurely life that was stolen from them, including simple activities like playing soccer, ice skating, walking in a field of flowers or even reading a book with a friend.

Yad Vashem's Art Collection is comprised of 12,000 works of art, most of which were created during the Holocaust. Each of these works is, in essence, an irreplaceable personal testimony of life during the Holocaust.
