Yad Vashem Calendar 2021-2022: Art Created by Women during the Holocaust

This year's calendar features artworks created by Jewish women during the Holocaust era, as well as some signifying a final memorial to the endeavors of women artists who were murdered during the Shoah. The calendar offers a glimpse into the treasures of Yad Vashem's Art Collection, while commemorating these artists and their works. The artists belong to different generations, come from various social and cultural backgrounds and have differing artistic training, but they all share a passion for art. The various genres  ̶  portraits, scenic views and still lifes, as well as the numerous styles and techniques   ̶  reflect the cultural richness of female Jewish artists who lived in Europe prior to and during the Holocaust. Some of the paintings and drawings allude to the cruel reality of life in the ghetto; others express the artists' longing to escape into the realm of beauty and aesthetics. The works left behind by the murdered artists, on the whole charming and pleasant, are a moving testimony to the existence and productivity of their creators.

Yad Vashem's Art Collection currently comprises 12,670 works of art, most of which were created during the Holocaust. Each of these works is, in essence, an irreplaceable personal testimony of life during the Holocaust.

Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, was established in 1953. Located on the Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem, Yad Vashem is dedicated to Holocaust remembrance, education, documentation and research – seeking to meaningfully impart the legacy of the Shoah for generations to come.
