A.B. Aktion: (Ausserordentliche Befriedigungsaktion). The “special pacification action” was carried out in mid-1940 to ensure quiet and order while liquidating the leaders of the resistance movement. Public opinion outside Germany was disregarded. Briefaktion: Letter-writing operation. The Germans would force the victims in the death camps to write fraudulent letters to their relatives describing the camps as labor camps with enough food and good living conditions. Jedenleihgebuhr: Every German business employing Jews had to pay a tax per head per day ostensibly for transfer to unemployed ghetto inhabitants. Only about thirty percent reached the ghetto leaders.
