The Pogrom of Jews in Kielce

This investigation reconstructs the events of the Kielce pogrom. It was provoked by the disappearance of a nine-year old Polish boy who, after his return, alleged that he had been held in a cellar of a Jewish house on Planty Street. The pogrom broke out on this spot and spread to other parts of the city. Many people participated in the pogrom, including policemen and soldiers. Forty-two Jews were murdered, and about fifty wounded, some by gunshots, others by bayonets. The pogrom in Kielce triggered a wave of massacres of Jews traveling in trains throughout Poland.
