""Designing Memory"" Competition

 The Official Commemorative Poster

The winning design was selected by a distinguished panel of artists and Holocaust education experts out of almost 100 entries, and is being distributed and displayed across Israel to mark Yom HaShoah 2017. This Poster was designed by Tamar Odaya Bodnar. Out of the numbers that were part and parcel of a systematic, deliberate and inhumane campaign, the figure of a single Jewish child stands clear. The shape has depth, representing an entire human world that was abruptly cut down and cultural ideas that were irreversibly changed. It is precisely in view of the intention to wipe out the relentlessly persecuted victims' identities and humanity that their aspirations and hope to cling to their lives, to the full extent and as meaningfully as possible, emerge with all their vitality. The vague figure reflected through the numbers serves as a reminder of the obligation to remember the victims as human beings with unique and distinct identities. The image is very meaningful, giving visual expression to the complex nature of Holocaust remembrance.
